Few courses in American golf carry a name more synonymous with one tournament than Colonial. Since 1946, the club has hosted what is now the Charles Schwab Challenge, making it one of the longest-running PGA Tour stops at a single venue in the country. Ben Hogan — Fort Worth's own — won here 5 times and shaped how generations of players approached its demanding, tree-lined layout. The course rewards precision over power, and that reputation has never wavered.
Designed by John Bredemus and later refined with input from Hogan himself, Colonial stretches along the Trinity River in the heart of Fort Worth. The back-to-back par 4s at holes 3 and 4 — part of what players call "The Horrible Horseshoe" — remain among the most strategically demanding consecutive holes on Tour, and they play every bit as difficult for members as they do for professionals.
Fort Worth carries a genuine Texas golf identity, distinct from the resort corridors of Dallas or the Hill Country. Colonial sits at the center of that tradition: a private club with a public legacy, where the history is embedded in every narrow fairway and small, well-guarded green.
