Few settings in Scottish golf are quite as dramatically framed as this one. Strone sits at the tip of the Cowal Peninsula, where the waters of the Holy Loch meet the Firth of Clyde, with the hills of Argyll rising steeply behind. It is the kind of landscape that tends to distract even the most focused player, and at a course where par is 62, the golf is intimate enough that you're rarely buried in thought over a long-iron approach — which leaves all the more attention for the view.
Blairmore & Strone is a short course by any measure, and almost certainly a mix of par 3s and brief par 4s winding across terrain shaped by the peninsula's hills and shoreline. That format suits this corner of Argyll well: accessible, unhurried, community-rooted golf in a place where the journey — down the A815 through Dunoon and along the loch road — is part of the pleasure.
Cowal golf has a quiet tradition behind it. Dunoon itself has hosted Highland Games since 1894, and the local clubs in this area carry a similar spirit of unpretentious belonging. This is golf played for the love of a particular patch of ground, not for ranking points or resort amenities.
