Isla Navidad Country Club

Few golf courses in Mexico command as dramatic a setting as Isla Navidad Country Club, the Robert Trent Jones Jr. design that occupies a slender barrier island where the Pacific Ocean crashes on one side and a vast lagoon system stretches on the other. Built as the centerpiece of a luxury residential and marina development in the mid-1990s, the course threads through coconut palms and tropical vegetation, with ocean and lagoon water in play on virtually every hole. The routing makes exceptional use of the isthmus, so players are rarely more than a short walk from either body of water — a geographic drama that few resort-style courses anywhere in the world can match.

Manzanillo itself sits on Colima's coast, a working port city with a laid-back Pacific character quite different from Los Cabos or Puerto Vallarta.
