Few London-area courses can claim a setting quite like this one. Royal Epping Forest Golf Club sits within the ancient woodland of Epping Forest, one of the capital's great green lungs, stretching north from Chingford into Essex. The forest itself has been protected common land since 1878, and the club's royal designation reflects its long association with the Crown — Queen Victoria opened the forest to the public that same year, and the golf club carries that Victorian heritage proudly. Playing here means navigating through mature oak and hornbeam woodland, where the trees are as much a strategic feature as any bunker.
Chingford sits at the southwestern edge of the forest, easily reached from northeast London, and the club draws a loyal membership from across the city's outer boroughs. The terrain is characteristically undulating for this part of Essex, with enough elevation change to keep the walking honest and the sightlines interesting.
