Golfclub Obere Alp

Stühlingen sits in the far southwest corner of Baden-Württemberg, tucked into the Klettgau region where the Black Forest plateau begins to flatten toward the Rhine and the Swiss border lies just minutes to the south. It's quiet, agricultural country — rolling fields, scattered woodland, and the kind of unhurried pace that tends to suit golf rather well.

Golfclub Obere Alp takes its name from the elevated plateau on which it sits, and the layout makes good use of that open, upland terrain. The course plays across a landscape with genuine sweep and exposure — wide views extend toward the Swiss Alps on a clear day — and the natural contours of the land shape holes in ways that a purely manufactured design rarely achieves. Wind can be a meaningful factor up on the plateau, adding a variable the scorecard never captures.

As a member-oriented club in a sparsely populated corner of Germany, Obere Alp represents the quieter side of German golf culture: well-kept, seriously played, and refreshingly free of the resort-circuit crowds that follow the country's more prominent venues.
