Joondalup Resort Golf Course

Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed Joondalup Resort's layout across a landscape that would stop most architects in their tracks — a ancient coastal plain north of Perth studded with tuart and jarrah woodland, limestone outcrops, and the kind of natural contours that look sculpted but are entirely geological. Jones worked with the terrain rather than against it, routing holes through stands of native bush and around wetlands that give the course a genuine sense of discovery from tee to green. The result has earned Joondalup a place among Australia's better resort courses and a reputation that extends well beyond Western Australia.

The course is built across 3 distinct nines — Lakes, Dunes, and Canyon — which gives the resort flexibility to rotate combinations and keeps regular visitors from going stale. The Canyon nine in particular draws the most attention, with its limestone ridges and elevation changes creating a playing environment unlike almost anything else in the Perth metropolitan area.

Perth's northern corridor has grown enormously since Joondalup opened, but the course has aged well. The surrounding bushland buffers it from the suburban sprawl of Joondalup city, and the resort remains a genuine destination for interstate visitors looking for a polished experience in a region better known for its private sand-belt clubs than its resort offerings.
