Few Lancashire clubs carry the kind of unhurried, salt-aired character that Heysham Golf Club has accumulated over more than a century of play. Established in 1910 on the headland above the village of Heysham — one of the oldest settlements on this stretch of the northwest coast — the course occupies ground with genuine historical weight: the ancient Saxon rock-cut graves and ruined chapel of St Patrick's sit just beyond the boundary, a reminder that people have found meaning in this particular promontory for well over a thousand years.
The course itself is a compact, par-70 layout that rewards precision over power. Heysham Head provides elevated ground with views across Morecambe Bay toward the Lake District fells, and the coastal winds that roll in off the Irish Sea have a habit of turning straightforward-looking holes into genuine tests. It plays shorter than many Lancashire heathland courses, but the exposed terrain ensures conditions are rarely neutral.
Morecambe is an unpretentious seaside town in the middle of a long, slow reinvention, and Heysham Golf Club fits that spirit — a members' club with real roots in its community, offering golf that feels earned rather than manicured.
