North Haverhill sits in New Hampshire's Connecticut River Valley, where the terrain rises and folds through the woods of Grafton County. This corner of the state is a long way from the resort bustle of the Lakes Region or the White Mountains — it's working-country New Hampshire, with a quieter, more local character that tends to show up in the golf clubs that take root here.
A country club at this latitude and elevation earns its season. Summers are short, the fairways can play firm and fast by August, and the surrounding hardwood forest puts on a legitimate show come September. When a course carries the name "Blackmount," it's almost certainly nodding to Black Mountain, the ridge that defines the skyline to the east — which means elevation changes are likely part of the picture, and views probably come with the round.
For golfers traveling through the Upper Connecticut River Valley, a stop here is the kind of low-key, members-and-guests experience that reminds you what regional golf clubs were always meant to be: honest, unhurried, and rooted in the land they occupy.
