Few cities in southern Africa have a richer sporting heritage than Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second city and a place where golf has been played since the colonial era. Harry Allen Golf Club sits within that tradition — a members' club that has long served as a social and competitive anchor for the city's golfing community. The course takes its name from Harry Allen, one of the pioneering figures in Bulawayo's early history, and reflects the kind of institution-building that characterized civic life in Matabeleland's capital during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The course plays across the highveld plateau landscape typical of Bulawayo — relatively flat, open terrain at around 1,340 metres of altitude, where the thin air adds genuine carry to every shot and the dry season can leave fairways firm and fast. Indigenous trees and the particular quality of Zimbabwean light give the round a distinct sense of place that no comparable layout further south quite replicates.
