Few private clubs in the western suburbs have stirred as much anticipation as Chicago Highlands. Designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 2015, it was built from the ground up on a site that had previously housed a country club, and Fazio's team moved enormous amounts of earth to manufacture the rolling, contoured terrain that Chicago's flat topography rarely offers naturally. The result is a course that feels more like something transplanted from the Mid-Atlantic than a product of the Illinois prairie — bold shaping, dramatic fairway movement, and greens complexes that demand precise approach angles.
The club sits in Westchester, a village that sits almost exactly halfway between downtown Chicago and the Fox River Valley, and it draws a membership largely rooted in the city's business and finance community. Chicago Highlands was almost immediately recognized among the better new private courses in the country upon opening, earning attention from several national ranking panels.
For a golfer used to the windswept, flatter tests of the region's older parkland layouts, Highlands plays like a deliberate departure — strategic, polished, and unapologetically modern in its ambitions.
