Few settings in Quebec golf carry the atmospheric weight of the Gaspésie Peninsula, and Fort Prével earns its place in that landscape honestly. The course occupies the grounds of a former military fort on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, giving it a historical identity that goes well beyond the golf itself. The old fort buildings still stand, now part of an auberge that draws guests as much for the surroundings as for the round itself — the wide river, the salt air, and the granite headlands of the Chic-Choc foothills forming a backdrop that's genuinely hard to replicate anywhere in Canadian golf.
The course plays as a par 71 across terrain shaped by the St. Lawrence shoreline, with holes that routinely expose players to the coastal winds that funnel through this stretch of the Gaspé coast. It's the kind of layout where conditions matter as much as your swing.
St-Georges-de-Malbaie is deep Gaspésie — a long drive from Quebec City but very much worth the commitment for golfers who want a round tied to a real sense of place. This is destination golf in the truest sense: remote, distinctive, and memorable for reasons a scorecard will never capture.
